Discussing Thoreau and Anarchism after class. There is a piece written by Thoreau. The name of the piece is Civil Disobedience. In this Thoreau, talks about his one night in jail for not paying his taxes. The amazing part of this story his detail of one night in jail. Honestly it gave me the impression that he was there for months. But he states in the piece it was for only a day. Thoreau could be considered an anarchist for his beliefs but if one doesn't know what an anarchist is they would say he is. In his work he uses every possible way to say he is not. He says things like I am not trying to incriminate myself but this should be said. He shows how tired he actually was with the government he went in lived in a cabin by a river for years I believe. The closes anyone could get to freedom, one place where someone can go to escape from other people and their rules, the woods. He talks about just being a nice neighbor with good morals is all he wants to be. As I said if you knew what anarchism was you would not call Thoreau one. I can tell what Anarchism is not chaos, mindless rebellion, primitives, and amoral egotism, and it is not terrorism. At least that is what it says in the booklet Anarchism: What it is and What it isn't by Chaz Bufe. Honestly I have no opinion on the anarchism, but it reminds me of a movie of a novel about equality. Called 2081. If anyone reads this you should watch this. Its about equality to the extreme. And what i mean by that is the government came in created us all equal. No one cares for color of skin anymore; that's good, but no one cares for IQ either so you have to be dumb downed if you are smart then the average. It is actually a great story. If, one corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a conscience,” then is this an Anarchist position? No, because a man can have a good idea and not act on it. What might make it so? Action, even Martin Luther King Jr. talked action, and when action is presented there will always be publicity. With publicity comes a name. Anarchist, or Hero. That is what I said.
